About this work
Three in the morning, one floor under the ER. The diagnostic draw lab has the fluorescents half on, and only the centrifuge still spinning. Hyeola is the night tech. A tourniquet lives in her scrub pocket. Her husband is at the emergency station upstairs.
Unlabeled tubes sit on the rack. “Just the label.” If the phone is answered, the night ends as a handoff. If it is not, the chair and the wall are left.
