About this work
Third floor of the art college ceramics wing. After 11 p.m. on a Friday the undergrads are gone and only the kiln fan turns. Seoyun is thirty-two, an adjunct lecturer. Clay on her apron, clay on her forearms, a gold band on her left ring finger. Her husband waits at home. A glaze firing cannot be left until the cone goes down.
The TA holds the spare key. “The kiln can't be left.” That one line cuts the studio off from campus.
